Leap permissions quick start guide
Solution

Did your library just receive Leap and you cannot wait to begin using it? Below you will find a quick list of records to check before you, or your staff, log in for the first time.

Staff Member

In general, user permissions that control Polaris staff client record access and functions also apply to similar records and functions in Leap. As a result, so long as you and your staff already have a Staff Member record with the permissions associated with your day-to-day duties, these will carry over into Leap.

However, there are a couple of additional permissions you will need to consider adding for any staff that are looking to access Leap:

Control Record Organization Levels Permission Description

Access Leap

System

Allow

Access the Leap Web App

Access Leap remotely System Allow Access the Leap Web App remotely
Setup offline System Allow Allow setup of Leap Offline app

The system level Access Leap: Allow permission is the base level permission that you would want to provide to any staff that you would like to be able to access Leap.

Similar to the system level Access Leap Remotely: Allow permssion this permission will allow staff to be able to access Leap. However, this permission differs because it will allow staff to access a separate, remote access only leap URL if your library has decided to configure one. This option to have an internal and external Leap URL provides our libraries with the ability to limit which staff are able to access Leap from outside the library. If this is something your library may be interested in, please contact your Polaris Site Manager for more information.

The system level Setup Offline: Allow permission will allow staff to be able to configure their workstation to utilize Leap in an offline setting.

Workstation Record

In order to run the Leap application on a library workstation a corresponding Leap enabled workstation record must be added in Polaris Administration.

If your library already has existing workstation records and you would like for those same workstations to be available as an option when logging into Leap, all you need to do is open the workstation records in system administraion and select the Leap checkbox:

If you are using a new tablet or laptop as a workstation, see the solution How does Leap's workstation detection work? (Supportal login required)

Leap access URL

Once you have configured your staff member record and workstation records with the appropriate permissions and settings, you are ready to log into Leap! While these URL's may differ library to library, most will be able to access Leap using a URL similar to the following:

HTTPS://[YOUR CATALOG DOMAIN]/LeapWebApp

If you are unsure about the URL you should be using to access Leap, please contact your Polaris Site Manager!
