The shelving status can be enabled at any level in Parameters -> Patron Services -> Shelving status options. At the system level, you can change what text is shown for this status - the default is "Shelving." The length of time by material type, and what happens if an item is checked in again, can be set at any level (system, library, or branch). If you disable shelving status, any relevant items will stop showing as "Shelving" after the Item Shelving Status SQL job runs; the job's default schedule is to run every nine minutes. A branch's "Hours of Operation" and "Dates Closed" settings will affect how long an item shows in the shelving status. The time is calculated based on when the branch is open, not a 24 hour clock. If an item is shown to be "Shelving" for 8 hours, and it is checked in 5 hours before the branch closes, then it will still be marked as "Shelving" for 3 hours the next day that the branch is open. Additionally, if the period is less than 24 hours and the item is checked in less than 3 hours before the branch closed, the time is recalculated and will begin the next time the branch opens. The shelving status will display in the PAC, the PAC preview in the item's linked bibliographic record, lists of linked item records, the Find Tool, and any applicable Item Record Sets. It will not show in the item record itself. When an item with a status of Out or In-Transit is checked in, it will show as "Shelving" based on the settings for the branch and the item's material type. When an item with a status of "In" is checked in, it may or may not go to the shelving status depending on where the check-in occurs. If the item is checked in from the item record, the Find Tool, or the Check In workform in Normal Mode or Bulk Mode, it will show as "Shelving." If the item is checked in on the Check In workform in either In House Mode or Update Inventory Date Mode, then it will still show as "In."
